Autumn, hair loss

Autumn is the season that we lose the most hair.

We notice it right away on our hairbrush, pillow and in the shower. But there is no cause for alarm. Just like other mammals, humans also shed their hair. This normally happens in spring and autumn, though more noticeably in the latter.

There are two key factors in explaining seasonal hair loss:

  1. Temperature changes and shorter daylight hours affect our pineal gland (a small endocrine gland in the brain that produces melatonin, a hormone derived from serotonin that affects the modulation of wake/sleep patterns, both circadian and seasonal). All of this leads to hormonal changes that affect hair loss.
  2. Telogen phase of the hair follicle: the resting phase. In this phase, the hair follicle rests and hair begins to fall out. It lasts 3 months and throughout the phase the hair roots remain in the follicle. After this phase is over, the hair cycle begins again with new growth.

Nevertheless, there is nothing to be concerned about: every time a hair falls out another one will start growing in its place! We encourage you to get into a good routine to help your hair in the growth phase. Let’s get started!

  • It’s a good time to take care of your hair. A good trim would be a great decision. If you’re more daring, trade your locks for a bob or pixie cut.
  • Avoid using straighteners or hairdryers for a while. If you can’t live without them, protect your hair with Thermic for straighteners and hairdryers.
  • Use a soft brush on your hair to prevent breakage.
  • Watch your diet. Good eating habits are key to healthy hair. You should have fruit, vegetables, legumes and foods high in vitamins and trace minerals, such as nuts, every day. In general, it is important to eat a varied, healthy diet, and you’ll see the effects in your hair.
  • This time of year, more than ever, make sure to moisturize your hair. We recommend a natural, gentle moisturizer, like our mango-oil mask: Insta Repair Mask.

Use products that curb and prevent hair loss, formulated with natural ingredients to promote hair follicles. Below are four of our products we recommend as your essential allies in this routine:

Remember: How you apply the product is just important as the time you take in massaging it into the scalp so that it will penetrate and do what it is supposed to. Don’t rush your routine; your hair and scalp will thank you. The results will make the whole process worth it!
